Are you an adult that doesn’t know how to swim? Then it is important to know why we want you to learn how to swim. This is important for anyone’s safety around or in water. The best way to learn how to swim is to find a swimming school or swimming classes that you can take.
As already mentioned, pool chlorine and bromine are both used to kill bacteria and contaminants. However, each chemical works in its own way. When added to pool water, swimming pool chlorine breaks down into a variety of chemicals including hypochlorous acid and hypochlorite ions. These chemicals deactivate and destroy microorganisms such as bacteria by attacking their cell walls and then destroying the internal enzymes and structures of the cell. This causes the cells to become oxidized, which leaves them in a harmless state. Once the chlorine molecules have combined with the microorganisms in this way, they become inactive and can no longer continue to sanitize the water. This is why pool chlorine has to be routinely added to the water.
When swimming pool bromine is added to water, it forms hypobromous acid. Hypobromous acid is the oxidizer and sanitizer which will then react with microorganisms to deactivate them. This reaction between the hypobromous acid and the contaminants results in combined bromine or bromamines. However, unlike swimming pool chlorine, much of the pool bromine will remain active even after killing the bacteria and other contaminants. Naturally, this means that less bromine is required to keep a pool sanitized as compared to chlorine.
However, the differences in their chemical reactions and the amounts of each chemical required to keep water healthy and sanitized are not the only contrasts between pool chlorine and bromine. For instance, swimming pool bromine is a pre-stabilized chemical while some swimming pool chlorine is not. Also, because bromine is pre-stabilized, it often works better in warmer temperatures than chlorine, making it a good choice for sanitizing spas and hot tubs. However, pool bromine dissolves at a much slower rate than chlorine does and, as a result, it has to be added to a swimming pool through an automatic chemical feeder.
Many people have a fear of water and taking lessons as an adult can help to overcome that fear. There may be times in your life that water will be around whether it is liked or not, and learning how to protect yourself and others around will definitely be helpful.
While swimming pool bromine has several advantages over chlorine by being less harsh and by producing less of an odour, it can be more difficult to wash away bromine’s chemical smell from your skin after swimming. Also, the main disadvantage of using pool bromine as a sanitizer is the cost, as bromine tends to be significantly more expensive than chlorine. However, if you are prone to skin or eye irritation or are particularly sensitive to strong odours, then it may well be worth paying the extra money to use swimming pool bromine as your pool sanitizer.
These are definitely not all of the reasons you want to learn to swim. They are very important reasons though. Swimming is something that anyone can learn to do if lessons are taken. All it takes is time and practice.
Don’t delay in finding lessons that you can take as soon as possible. The sooner swimming is second nature, the better off your life will be and the safer the kids will be, if there are any. Adults need to know how to swim for so many different reasons, so find the best way for learning how now to be sure water is never a threat again

Attention: Water balance is very important to ensure that your swimming pool chemicals work properly and for as long as they should
You must be familiar with the way your pool or spa works before adding any pool chemical A clear, clean fresh spa or pool is only possible if you have good filtration and clear water flow
The first step in treatment is to ensure good water balance, which will create the right conditions for bather comfort, chemical efficiency and equipment protection. There are three major factors affecting water balance, they are pH, total alkalinity and calcium hardness
Calcium hardness
Hardness depends on the levels of calcium salt in your water. This depends on where you live Low calcium hardness can cause damage to your pool materials. High calcium hardness levels (hard water) often leads to the formation of scale in pipe work and equipment.
these are guideline levels
• Ideal calcium hardness levels are between 100 – 200 ppm (mg/l).
• When the measurement is below 75 ppm (mg/l), apply Hardness Plus
• If the measurement exceeds 200 ppm (mg/l), apply Scale Inhibitor.
pH Measures
The pH scale has a range of 1 – 14 with 1 being very acidic, 7 being neutral and 14 being very alkaline. It is essential to maintain spa water within the 7.2 – 7.6 range which, because it is slightly alkaline, will protect equipment from corrosion and produce the ideal environment for bather comfort
• Ideal pH level for spas is between 7.2 – 7.6.
• If the level drops below apply pH Plus
• If the level exceeds 7.6 apply pH Minus
Note
pH can be tricky to moderate in spas because the system water turns over fast, is highly agitated and operates at greater temperature than swimming pools. [All these factors
As a consequence rises in pH will lead the performance of chlorine (HOCl) sanitisers such as chlorine tablets to drop dramatically. Much higher doses of chlorine sanitisers such as will then be required. This can be avoided by using Bromine Tablets, Bromine (HOBr) is a highly effective sanitiser, and it is stable over a much wider pH range than chlorine treatments. It is also less volatile than chlorine and will remain in the spa for a longer period reducing your hot tub chemicals usage and ensuring hygienic conditions prevail.
Total Alkalinity
Total Alkalinity (TA) acts as a buffer to prevent pH change. If TA levels are too low the pH will fluctuate widely.
If Total alkalinity is too high then water clarity can be affected but it also makes it difficult to make changes to water pH levels
• optimum Total Alkalinity is 100 ppm (mg/l) When it is below 80mg/l use Alkalinity Plus
• When Total Alkalinity exceeds 140mg/l remedy it with pH Minus to reduce it
Water balance should be checked regularly and, certainly, every time you top up or refill your pool or spa.
Testing your water is easy, you just use test strips which are available online
My family and I are great lovers of swimming. It’s such a fantastic way to not only get some much needed exercise but to unwind and relax.
We used to visit our local swimming pool every week but we could only do this in the summer months when the outdoor pool was open. During the winter months we need to travel into the city to take a dip in the busy municipal pool. Some lucky friends, who live nearby, recently invested in a pool of their own and we’ve been inspired to do the same.
They chose an elliptical Doughboy pool for their back garden. I’d never heard of Doughboy before (except the Pillsbury Doughboy) but I have to say I’m mightily impressed by their swimming pools. They’ve been in the business of designing and manufacturing swimming pools since 1945 and they have really perfected their pool quality and ease with which these excellent pools can be installed.
Doughboy pools, made from steel and resin, are one of the most popular swimming pools in the UK today. They are very tough, durable and cheap. Our friends told us that they had erected their pool in less than a weekend. They included a pool heat pump to warm the water which makes it so comfortable the children never want to get out.
A really cool feature of Doughboy pools is their exapandability. You can increase the depth to a maximum of 7 feet which is great for when the children get that much bigger. They come with a top quality pool liner, a sand filter, power pump and even a skimmer. All you really need to add is a heater, if you don’t like swimming in cool water.
It’s easy to see why the Doughboy pool is the UKs most popular form of above ground pool. So I think the time has come. Time to order a pool for our own back garden and get ready for the swarm of children who will descend on our house.
