For many people, SE Optimization is something that only people with years of experience can master. As a Dallas SEO it’s my belief that a lot of this is because of all the snake oil flogged by many so called SEO’s. Some do this because they don’t have any idea what they’re talking about while many others do it because their Clients would stop paying them if they knew how easy it was to rank a web site. SEO is not rocket science folks. It’s a systematic series of procedures that if done properly, will cause a Website to move up in the rankings.

To set the foundation for your website, a person should make certain the main keywords are used in the URL if at all possible. All things being equal, a Website with your keywords in the URL will rank higher than a website without the keywords contained in the domain name.

Now that you have that done, the keyword or keyword phrase should be added in the Name of your Website. This helps the search engines figure out what the subject of your Website is.

You should also use keywords in the Title of each page or article on your site, or at least, the Title of the page should contain your some keywords. This also helps the search engines determine what the page is about, what words to rank it for and how relevant it is. Also, the page Title should also be used in your H1 tag. Search engines rely a great deal on the H1 to tell them what the page is about and how relevant it is. If your Houston web designer does not know how this is done, fire them and find one that understands SEO.

If you have that done, it’s crucial that the words you wish your website to rank higher for show up a few times in the content of the page. I like to place the main keyword of the page somewhere in the first paragraph and at least once in the last paragraph. A few more times between the first and last paragraph won’t hurt, whatever you do, make certain to use them in the first part of the page and again at the end.

Finally, you’ll soon discover that the most important part of Search Engine Optimization actually takes place off the page. In fact, it takes place off the site altogether. In my opinion, the most important thing in obtaining a higher ranking is backlinks leading back to your Website. And it’s not enough to just get backlinks, these backlinks need to have your keywords as the Anchor text of the links back to your site.

How important are backlinks? Well, I can rank a website that doesn’t have the keywords in the domain, one that doesn’t have keywords in the Website Title, Page Title and in the Content (although it’s much, much harder to do), but without anchored backlinks leading back to your site, {it is almost impossible} to get ranked higher for any search terms that are the least bit competitive.

Many internet marketing beginners have a basic understanding of search engine optimization (SEO).Beginners want their sites to rank well in the search engines without realizing their sites might be the problem.  This article presents 6 SEO mistakes to avoid on your website.

1.Frames – Many people use frames when building their web pages.Frames cause problems for search engines because the content in the frames is not easy to track.  The search engines cannot distinguish which frame contains the main content, so they could be tracking something not conducive to SEO for your website.

2.Flash – Flash is a popular way to make you website stand out. This might look good, but in terms of SEO, it means nothing.Search engines cannot read Flash files, so it would be useless for you to include Flash on your site.

3.Keyword Stuffing – Using too many keywords will cause your page ranking to go down.Having too many keywords causes search engines to think that your page is being spammed or that it is artificially created.Search engines want unique content.

4.Keyword Hiding – This is related to keyword stuffing.  Attempting to make keywords that are colored the same as your background, and effectively “hiding” them, will cause the search engines to downgrade your page ranking.Again, this is because search engines see spam.Search engines do not like to be tricked.

5.  Text Inside Images – Sometimes marketers post images with a caption that is already embedded into the image.  It is better, however, to post the image by itself and have the caption be written in HTML.  The reason is that search engines use something called “spiders” to extract information from your web page.Spiders will assume any embedded text in an image is part of the image and will skip over this text.  If the caption is written as separate HTML, the spiders will read that caption and include it for SEO purposes.

6.  Javascript Links – If you use links on your side, you need to make sure to use simple HTML links instead of Javascript controlled links. Spiders will extract information from those links to be included for page ranking.

When an internet marketer is just starting out, search engine optimization can be a daunting challenge.  By taking these mistakes into account, however, an internet marketer can be confident that he or she is getting a good start.Avoiding these mistakes as well as implementing other SEO techniques will cause your page to be ranked in no time.
