Anyone can make a site, but the question is, can you make a site that will rank well. This means more exposure, which in the end means more sales.

This article presents 3 big tips for optimizing website content for ranking in the search engines.

1. Unique Content – A lot of people are putting sites out there that are basically clone sites.Search engines are identifying these sites to rank them lower. The search engines want you to give value to the web, not just clutter it up.What you want to do is have a site that can provide valuable, unique content.

Think about it like this: If you’re choosing between 100 sites that look the same and the one site that is different and unique, which one are you going to choose? The one that looks different is going to stick out and rank better.  Take some time and think through how you’re going to present your site.  It might take longer to do this, but in the end it will pay off.

2.Good Keywords – It’s all about the keywords.A site without the the right keywords won’t rank well.So how do you get these keywords? There are many free keyword tools, including one by Google.

There are also many pay sites that can tell you how popular a keyword is.  Generally, you want to find keywords that have a high enough number of monthly searches, but a low number of competitors.  A good guideline to follow is a keyword that gets 200 or more monthly searches, but has 10,000 or fewer competitor sites.  If you can, try to find about 20 – 30 of these.

3.Website Structure – So you have your keywords. Now what?Search engines send out spiders to your site to get the relevant information from it.Your goal is make it easy for the spider that is examining your site.

You can do this by using a keyword rich title.Use one of your best keywords in the title. If you want to use more than one, separate them using “|”.You should limit it to 2-3 keywords. The title of your site should be the best keywords you have.

You can also use meta and robots tags.  Meta tags go in the header of your site, and its also a place where you can put keywords that are relevant to your site.  Don’t overdo it, though, because the search engines will think you’re keyword stuffing, which will hurt you.

The robots tag basically gives permission to the search engine spiders to search your site.  Just use “meta name=”robots” content=”all”, and the spiders will spider you site.

Many internet marketing beginners have a basic understanding of search engine optimization (SEO).Beginners want their sites to rank well in the search engines without realizing their sites might be the problem.  This article presents 6 SEO mistakes to avoid on your website.

1.Frames – Many people use frames when building their web pages.Frames cause problems for search engines because the content in the frames is not easy to track.  The search engines cannot distinguish which frame contains the main content, so they could be tracking something not conducive to SEO for your website.

2.Flash – Flash is a popular way to make you website stand out. This might look good, but in terms of SEO, it means nothing.Search engines cannot read Flash files, so it would be useless for you to include Flash on your site.

3.Keyword Stuffing – Using too many keywords will cause your page ranking to go down.Having too many keywords causes search engines to think that your page is being spammed or that it is artificially created.Search engines want unique content.

4.Keyword Hiding – This is related to keyword stuffing.  Attempting to make keywords that are colored the same as your background, and effectively “hiding” them, will cause the search engines to downgrade your page ranking.Again, this is because search engines see spam.Search engines do not like to be tricked.

5.  Text Inside Images – Sometimes marketers post images with a caption that is already embedded into the image.  It is better, however, to post the image by itself and have the caption be written in HTML.  The reason is that search engines use something called “spiders” to extract information from your web page.Spiders will assume any embedded text in an image is part of the image and will skip over this text.  If the caption is written as separate HTML, the spiders will read that caption and include it for SEO purposes.

6.  Javascript Links – If you use links on your side, you need to make sure to use simple HTML links instead of Javascript controlled links. Spiders will extract information from those links to be included for page ranking.

When an internet marketer is just starting out, search engine optimization can be a daunting challenge.  By taking these mistakes into account, however, an internet marketer can be confident that he or she is getting a good start.Avoiding these mistakes as well as implementing other SEO techniques will cause your page to be ranked in no time.
