Coaching! Business-Coaching! Life-Coaching! Dann kommt noch Selbstcoaching und Führungscoaching! Kaum ein anderer Begriff wird in Bezug auf persönliche Entwicklkung, Führung und die eigene positive Weiterbildung häufiger genannt als Coaching! Was aber macht eigentlich den entscheidenden Unterschied?
Ein sehr schneller Wachstumsmarkt, keine einheitlichen Richtlinien, die Leute berechtigen würden diesen Titel zu verwenden und eine sehr große Anzal verschiedener Definitionen und Anwendungen schaffen natürlich viel Raum für mögliche Kritik. Eine Frage, die offensichtlich wird und die auch mir oft gestellt wird, ist: Was zeichnet Coaching bzw. gutes Coaching eigentlich aus?
Viele Menschen suchen einen Coach weil sie ein Problem haben. Sie erwarten, dass der Coach das Problem FÜR sie löst. Die Probleme sind zahlreich: “Ich bin stets gestresst.”, “Meine Beziehung macht mich traurig.” oder aber “Ich bekomme nicht bzw. niemals was ich wirklich will.” sind beliebte Aussagen. Um gleich mit einem beliebten Klischee aufzuräumen: Kein auch nur halbwegs professioneller oder guter Coach wird ein Problem für seinen Kunden lösen.
Der Grund dafür liegt auf der Hand. Sollten Sie vielleicht eigene Kinder haben, könnten Sie die Antwort schon kennen. Der einfachste Weg wäre natürlich dem Kind die Lösung abzunehmen, das heisst es wieder zum Spielen zu schicken. Was aber tut das Kind wenn das Problem wieder auftaucht? Richtig, es wird Sie wieder aufsuchen. Lösen Sie das Problem wieder, so hat nicht nur das Kind bald wieder Schwierigkeiten, sondern auch Sie selbst. Sie kreieren ein Abhängigkeitsverhältnis für das Kind, das Kind selbst wird zukünftig bei immer kleineren Problemen sofort zum „Coach“ rennen und Sie selbst finden sich immer häufiger in der Rolle des elterlichen Problemlösers.
Eigenverantwortung? Keine!
Selbstbestimmung? Mitnichten!
Durchhaltevermögen und Widerständen gegenübertreten zu können? Fehlanzeige!
Zufällig einige der Charaktereigenschaften, die so häufig fehlen in unserer Gesellschaft, die geprägt ist von Schnelllebigkeit, Ignoranz und Ablenkung wenn es um die Konfrontation mit unangenehmen Situationen geht. Die illustrierte Rolle der Eltern ist je nach Lebenslage, Alter und Umständen austauschbar durch die beste Freundin, Arbeitskollegen, den Chef, oder den Ehepartner.
Was benötigen Sie bzw. der “Coachee” in solch einer Situation am meisten? Sie benötigen neuartige Optionen, alternative Blickwinkel und ganz besonders den Willen das Problem lösen zu wollen. Selber aus dem Weg zu schaffen! Ist der Coach effektiv, versorgt er Sie.a. mit diesen “Zutaten”, meistens formuliert durch besondere Fragen: Andere Alternativen, Möglichkeiten und Blickwinkel. Die Gegenüberstellung von Problem und Lösung (Ist und Soll) erfolgt in einem Maß, dass der Kunde ausschließlich die neue Situation (die Lösung) als akzeptabel ansieht. Dann, und nur dann, werden die notwendigen Handlungen unternommen, die zu einer Veränderung der aktuellen, unbefriedigenden Situation führen. Ob es nun um Führungsverhalten, Persönlichkeitstraining oder auch Methoden des Selbstcoaching geht.
Gutes Coaching ist erkennbar an messbaren Resultaten und sofortiger Veränderung (auch kleine Veränderungen sind Veränderungen), einer Atmosphäre von Vertrauen und dem Ziel, dem Kunden innerhalb kürzestmöglicher Zeit weiter zu helfen. Nur dann ist Coaching effektiv UND sinnvoll, nur dann lohnt sich das Investment und nur in diesem Fall besteht eine realistische Chance auf eine dauerhafte Veränderung. How can I use your method of “farming” to breakthrough my current plateau of sales in my business?
“I really got a ton out of your perspective on hunting vs. farming as a way of attracting new prospects and clients. I’m really stuck though because I always have believed in the concept of giving value first, asking for business second, yet my annual sales revenue has stagnated and I can’t seem to break through to the next level. Mike, you are completely correct in searching for a way to use this spiritual principle to increase your business.
Most crucial is understanding that it takes creativity, proactive effort, and old-fashioned hard work to create value for others. It can’t simply be an emotion or an attitude. The feeling, or attitude is required, but only useful when backed up with action. You might remember on the call that I mentioned the importance of behaviors, not just thinking, to elevate results.
I would pose this question:
What are some ways that you could be adding value that are simple to do, that you have allowed to become easy not to do?
This is a good starting place. If this triggers anything, than put it into practicez. You might take the three areas from the call: distributing information, gift giving, and problem solving, and ask yourself; what are the easiest, fastest ways you could apply these lessons. I use the words “fast” and “easy” because most people over-think the process of farming (giving value first, asking for business second).
It might be as little as making sure you answers every phone call in a positive and uplifting way, vs. an unmonitored non-emotion-inducing approach.
It could be the difference between sending out a packet of complimentary, valuable information to your prospects before you meet them for a sales presentation, so they are conditioned early on to see you as an authority or expert.
Maybe it means hosting a phone group call for everybody in your sphere of influence, teaching them 4-7 ways to save money during tax season, or the 5 most common mistakes made by others in their field.
